Supportive & Palliative Care
Cancer patients and their families face serious problems and difficulties every day. They are often feel fear for the uncertain future, intense psychological stress and, quite often, social isolation.
Therefore, supportive and palliative care services are provided in the early stages of the disease, in conjunction with treatment, or in the advanced stages of the disease. Among others, they aim:
- To promote the quality of life
- To improve mood
- To relieve pain or other symptoms
- In the independence of patients in daily activities
The care offered is comprehensive and personalized for each patient according to his/her needs, ensuring the dignity and comfort of him/her and his/her people.
Patients have the option of receiving supportive care for as long as they need it, depending on the stage of the disease in cases of nausea, vomiting, pain, depression or fatigue.
When a person receives palliative care, they can continue to receive their treatment at the same time.
Several times the staff of the service visit the patient and his/her family, assess the situation, prioritize their needs and set goals together.
The nurses of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Association have the appropriate knowledge and training for symptom management.
The Association's physician is a pathologist specializing in palliative care.
