Physiotherapy

We improve the patient’s physical condition and sense of well-being

Palliative care is a philosophy and a holistic approach that aims at improving the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases. Physiotherapists focus on providing pain relief and treating other physical, psycho-social and spiritual problems.

The Physiotherapy Service of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society is provided by professional physiotherapists, as well as physiotherapists who also specialise in managing lymphoedema.

Physiotherapy is provided at the district offices of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society throughout the country, at healthcare institutions or at the patients’ homes.

How can physiotherapy help me?

Physiotherapy improves the patients’ physical condition and sense of well-being and assists them in achieving the highest possible level of functional independence.

In addition to the common physiotherapy treatment techniques, our physiotherapists also specialize in managing lymphoedema.

The primary role of physiotherapy in palliative care is to improve the patient’s everyday life:

  • By preventing muscle mass loss and muscle weakness (i.e. mobilization, analgesic and muscle relaxant currents).
  • By managing symptoms (i.e. fatigue, constipation, respiratory problems, worry and anxiety).
  • By preventing and managing lymphoedema (i.e. lymphatic massage, compression bandaging, compression gloves, sleeves and socks).
  • By maintaining the patient’s independence in self-care for as long as possible.

How can I access physiotherapy services?

Cancer patients are referred to the Physiotherapy Service by their treating physicians or directly at the district offices of the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society.
