Smoking-related diseases

From scientific journals on smoking, we gleaned the following data in terms of the diseases it causes.

  • Smoking accounts for 90% of patients with lung cancer, 30% of all cancers, 25% of ischaemic heart diseases, 75% of chronic respiratory diseases including emphysema.
  • Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer and one of the main causes of oral cancer, oesophagus, stomach, bladder and breast cancer.
  • There is no system of the human body that remains unaffected by smoking.
