- The
"Arodaphnousa" Palliative Care Centre provides:
a) Relief of patients from pain and other distressing symptoms,
(1-2 weeks).
b) Psychological, social and spiritual support, (1-3 weeks).
c) Respite care, i.e. care of patients in order to relieve the
relatives who usually look after them,
(1- 2 weeks).
d) Accommodation and care to patients who come from other districts
to undergo radiotherapy or chemotherapy, at the Oncology Centres,
(according to oncological treatment, usually 6-8 weeks).
e) Terminal care. Patients usually stay in the Hospice for a period
of 4-6 weeks.
- Home
Care Services
The Anti-Cancer Society offers personal care and treatment to
patients at their homes. The Home Care Service was introduced
in September 1993. Today, it covers the whole of Cyprus, by offering
medical care, nursing treatment to patients as well as social
and psychological support, so that more patients are able to remain
at home. More than 620 patients were treated last year.

Day Care Service
The Day Care Centre receives 14 to 18 patients a day twice a week.
Patients are driven to and from their homes to the Centre. Patients
attend for social support in order to give the family a break.
Medical and nursing care is also available. Services include social
and psychological support, hairdressing, manicure, aromatotherapy,
physiotherapy music therapy, and massage. Day Care Services operate
in Nicosia, Limassol, Famagusta and Paphos.
- Physiotherapy/Rehabilitation
and Lymphoedema Clinic
The Society provides physiotherapy/rehabilitation services and
lymphoedema treatment in all districts, usually lasting for 3-4
weeks, and a follow up thereafter.
- Psychological,
Social - Services
The Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society has established, during the last
five years, a psychological service for the purpose of offering
to cancer patients in all districts psychological support. The
Service is lead by a psychologist, and in the districts, psychologists
are engaged on part-time basis. Social Services to patients are
provided by sociologist specialised in this field, and is further
supported by qualified social workers in the Districts and by
volunteers who are involved in many aspects of this type of care.
Volunteers receive initial and continuous service training in
this specialised field.
- Transportation
of patients from the various districts to Nicosia Oncology centres
The Society provides transportation services from Famagusta, Larnaca,
Paphos and Limassol, whereby cancer patients are transported to
the Oncological Centres in Nicosia, to receive chemotherapy and
radiotherapy treatments.
- Establishment
of Pancyprian Cancer Registry
The Cancer Registry was established in 1990 with the objective
of collecting all information regarding the various types of cancer
or probable cancer, diagnosed in Cyprus, the treatment offered
and the results emanating from such a treatment. The Cancer Registry
is expected eventually to offer possibilities of assessing the
dimension of the cancer problem on the island and trus contribute
to the improvement of patient care.
- Financial
assistance to Cancer patients
The Society offers financial assistance to cancer patients who
really need help. This assistance is granted to those intenting
to get treatment abroad and to patients with a low income.
